Once we were travellers

Rick Kup & Tatum Kempers

2020

Rick Kup and Tatum Kempers met each other in the summer of 1999. Many travel and adventures followed. Forced to stay at home by Corvid-19, they, like many others, have cleaned out their attic. They got no further than a box full of old drawings and texts made by Rick Kup in his younger days. They decided to use this period to give new life to these works. New ideas emerged together with old photos by Tatum Kempers, this formed the base for new work. They have created a new surreal world, marked by the dark sides of the period in which we now live.

Video Warning

Warning (lyricus):

‘It’s getting smaller everyday imploding and disappear, drown in my sweat can’t you understand a warning.’

The video Warning was made in Thailand with an infrared camera. The voices come from friends who are both extremes in vocal sound. This dualism is the distilled form of the interests and conflicts in our living environments. It is a seemingly endless mantra that swells and disappears. The treadmill in which we are doomed to keep walking our rounds forever.

Vocalist: Helga te Boekhorst and Mark Overbeek

Duration: 4.05 minutes
